I made some stovetop mac and cheese based on a recipe I found on the back of a macaroni box and I wanted to share it here because it's really good!
So, cook the pasta as directed by the box. Most elbows take between 9 and 11 minutes to cook. You can tell when it's cooked by how tender it is and if the ends of the pasta are a golden yellow with the rest. Drain tha tand set it aside when done.
To make the cheese sauce, first, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. It should melt pretty quick. Add in the flour and stir it in. Stir it and cook it until it's a golden brown mix. I use a rubber spatula for this to get the flour off the sides of the pan and off the bottom.
Slowly pour in the milk and stir it in. I recommend using a whisk for this. It should take about 8 minutes for the milk to thicken up and bubble. Stir and watch it until it's smooth and bubbly. Add in the salt and pepper to taste during this time. If you think it's too thin, add in a little more flour. Don't add to much though, or else it'll get too thick.
Finally, add in the cheese, any kind should work! Stir it in for about 2 minutes, until the cheese melts in. Stir it for a bit with theh eat off but the suacepan still on the stove. Once you think it's done, just combine with with your pasta!
The sauce will be very gooey and thick, but it tastes really good! :D I made it for Thanksgiving and just today for breakfast, and it's so good!
